I am trying to arrange to go take a look at this '53 Desoto. According to the ad it runs & is drivable, but has floor & frame rot. So I'd be looking at either frame repairs or swapping the body onto another frame(which will be interesting to find a donor for as it is the 139" LWB version).
Either way a ton of work, but he only wants $500 for it. At that price I may buy it, part out everything but that amazingly toothy front clip and use the clip to decorate my garden.

There are only so many '53 DeSotos left. Thoroughly worth it, and it's of an age where "piece of flat steel + ribs + MIG welder" is a pretty easy fix for floor pans that nobody will know any better on. Frame - it depends.

Any classic at 500 that looks that good is a steal, buy it!

Yeah the floor pans don't really worry me, but a rotted frame on a vehicle with a rare wheelbase seems like it could be a massive project.

If it's in the rails, a cut out of affected sections and bolt-in of a brace would work without too much effort. If it's in the outriggers/body supports, they're probably not hardened steel quite like the rails, so weld away! I'd expect chassis ancillaries to be riveted on. so as long as there aren't any pieces impossible to duplicate or fix in place, you can do just about anything.

I think you should buy it, but it seems a pity to me to part out a pretty good car like that. Part donors should be cars rotting in fields that take tens of thousands to repair.
